About Steven

Kilt and Code is the personal website of Steven McLintock, a Scottish full stack developer who lives in Stratford, Ontario.

Background

I taught myself how to build websites in the late '90s and graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2006 with a BSc. in Internet Software Development. I've been working as a developer since 2006.

I immigrated from Glasgow, Scotland to Toronto, Ontario in January 2017 and moved to Stratford, Ontario in December 2019, where I live with my wife Kate and our dog Angus.

Steven's journey into software development began in the late nineties, teaching himself to build websites before formalising his education at university. This foundation in internet software development shaped a career that has spanned nearly two decades, taking him from Glasgow to Ontario. The transition from Scotland to Canada marked a significant chapter, both personally and professionally, as he adapted to a new country while continuing to grow as a developer. His move to Stratford, Ontario brought a quieter pace of life, shared with his wife and their dog, while maintaining a deep commitment to the craft of building software.

The technical stack that Steven works with reflects a full stack approach, covering both frontend and backend development. Angular features prominently among the frameworks he uses, particularly for building component-based architectures where parent and child components communicate effectively. He also works extensively with SQL Server and Management Studio, managing database operations from table creation to complex queries. His writing often explores practical scenarios like auto-generating insert statements, validating reactive forms, and implementing bulletproof error handling, all grounded in real-world development experience.

Beyond the code, this site serves as a personal archive of articles exploring software development practices, unit testing, and the daily realities of working with modern languages and frameworks. Steven writes about the tools and techniques he encounters on a regular basis, sharing insights gained from hands-on experience rather than abstract theory. The Scottish heritage that inspired the site's name remains a subtle thread throughout, a reminder of the journey from Glasgow to Ontario. The content reflects a developer who values clarity, practical solutions, and the ongoing process of learning in an ever-evolving industry.
